Institute for Retailing & Data Science
Part-time, 10 hours/week
Starting as soon as possible and ending after 1 year

The relevance of data-driven marketing strategies for retail businesses has increased drastically over the past years due to the ready availability of scalable computational resources and advances in data science methods. Our research follows a data-driven approach by integrating our expertise in state-of-the-art data science methods with our domain-specific knowledge in retail management to help managers and policymakers make better decisions.
 
We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated individual who desires to support us in our daily teaching and research work. You will join a vibrant and ambitious team of internationally minded academics aspiring to the highest standards of research and teaching. We also actively help to learn new technologies and gain experience in the field of data science.

What to expect

Support teaching and research through:
  • Data and Service Management; Monitor and configure backups, and data pipelines.
  • Web scraping/automated data collection (e.g., usage of application programming interfaces)
  • Working with programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL) and data processing libraries (e.g., Pandas, Polars) to analyze data.

What you have to offer

Although we will help you familiarize yourself with our technology stack, theoretical knowledge or practical experience in the following areas is expected:
  • Ongoing bachelor or master studies with at least two semesters until graduation, ideally with a focus on marketing, economics, information systems, data science, or statistics, with above-average studying performance
  • Excellent command of English and German language
  • Profound knowledge in Object storage/S3 or data lakes and related technologies (e.g., Apache Parquet). Ideally, experience in Data management, formats and compression
  • Skills related to ETL, or data pipelines and dataflow automation (e.g., Airflow, Mage.ai) 
  • Experience with Online Analytical Processing (e.g., BigQuery, Clickhouse) or Database management systems (e.g., SQL), ideally with a focus on Online Analytical Processing and large-scale data processing
