STUDENT ASSISTANT - SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT (M/F/D)

Who are we?

The field of competence "Model-Based System Engineering" (MBSE) is researching methods and tools to tackle the enormous complexity in engineering safety critical software-intensive systems such as cars and planes. Our approaches base on the abstraction provided by models and the automation of design and validation activities. We evaluate our research results by means of open-source tool prototypes and the fortiss Mobility Lab that provides an autonomous driving use case based on miniature cars. We closely cooperate with our regional and international industrial partner companies to ensure the applicability of our solutions in their systems-engineering practice.

To strengthen our MBSE team, we are looking for a new team member (up to 20h per week) to support our application-driven research and the implementation of our open-source software.

Your task:

· Support us in the development of new software functions, e.g. for our engineering tool AutoFOCUS3[1]
· Get involved in complex software development projects that are based current software packages (e.g., Eclipse Modelling Framework (EMF), ROS, CARLA, JavaFX, ...) and standards (SysML, FMI, ...)
· Be part of our continuous software engineering and review process   [1] https://www.fortiss.org/en/results/software/autofocus-3

Your profile:

· You enjoy programming and have a profound knowledge in Java or another object-oriented programming language
· You are interested in writing high-quality source code and would like to improve your programming, debugging and software architecture skills
· You want to get to know new concepts, technology and frameworks in state-of-the-art research
· You can work independently and find solutions to problems
· You have good communication and writing skills in German or English
· Beneficial but not mandatory: background knowledge about systems engineering, model-based systems engineering or any of the above-mentioned software packages

Our offer:

· A wide range of opportunities for professional and personal development
· Involvement in diverse projects with an innovative approach and high practical relevance
· An international and dynamic work environment with highly qualified and motivated colleagues
· A good team spirit in an open cooperation culture with flat hierarchies
· A workplace in Munich-Schwabing (easy to reach by public transport: U6 Nordfriedhof)
· Flexible working hours
