Einleitung

The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.

The BMBF-funded project, AI- and citizen science-supported monitoring of certified biodiversity projects (KICS-Zert), aims at the development of an artificial intelligence (AI) and citizen science-supported biodiversity monitoring method to be used for certifying biodiversity conservation projects. The AI tool to be developed will analyse the complexity of ecosystems, the multi-taxonomic species composition (e.g. vegetation, insects and birds) and the intensity of agricultural land use using smartphone images and videos. For this, we need a research associate who will define indicators that are ecologically and technically sound and meet the  certification requirements of farmers and companies. One aim of the KICS-Zert project is to derive an indicator system for biodiversity monitoring using AI modelling and citizen science data. This task will be realized with strong cooperation with the Michael Otto-Institute inside NABU (MOIN) and their biodiversity monitoring team.

Subject to final approval to funding, we are offering a part time position (65%) from the 01. December 2024 till 30. November 2027 at our campus in Müncheberg as Research associate “Biodiversity impact assessment”(f/m/d) with the opportunity for preparing a PhD Thesis.
