The University Psychiatric Clinics (UPK) Basel is one of the leading psychiatric hospitals in Switzerland. Our goal is to continuously improve the treatment of our patients to achieve their best possible quality of life.

The main research focus of the Translational Psychiatry Lab is to improve the understanding of the neuronal mechanisms underlying psychosis and related disorders. The lab uses state-of-the-art neuroimaging techniques such as fMRI and EEG as well as psychophysics, eye tracking, transcranial magnetic stimulation and computational modelling.

Job assignments

  • We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist for the project "Investigating the role of NMDA receptor hypofunction in psychosis using neuroimaging across scales and species", which is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)
  • The project will use cutting-edge fMRI methodology in combination with computational modeling to investigate the effects of reduced NMDA-receptor function on visual processing in healthy human volunteers under pharmacological challenge with ketamine and in patients diagnosed with anti-NMDA-receptor encephalitis
  • The project is part of a collaborative consortium with researchers in Berlin and Münster, Germany

Your profile

  • PhD or MD/PhD degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. cognitive neuroscience, psychology, medicine)
  • Proficiency in computer programming and fMRI data analysis using state-of-the-art methods
  • Experience with computational modeling
  • Interest in working with psychiatric or neurologic patient populations
  • Demonstrated record of strong scientific writing
  • Good analytical and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in English at a scientific level
