ifa is looking for a full-time (100%) department head (m/f/d) in Stuttgart for international civil-society funding programmes

Who We Are

The Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen e.V. (ifa) promotes a peaceful and enriching coexistence between people and cultures worldwide. It supports artistic and cultural exchange in exhibition, dialogue and conference programmes, supports civil societies and acts as a centre of excellence for international cultural relations. ifa is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, the state of Baden-Württemberg, and the state capital Stuttgart. It has built a strong global network and focuses on developing long-term partnerships. We currently employ 160 people at our offices in Stuttgart and Berlin.

What You Can Expect

- You will lead the department in accordance with ifa goals and develop it strategically into the future

- You will manage a budget of c. 12 m Euro and be responsible for currently more than 50 staff at two different locations

- You will position the department in cooperation with partners in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, Europe, and around the world. You will expand the department's networks

- You will identify relevant foreign and cultural policy issues and initiate and plan programmes and events on these and on other key ifa themes

- You will initiate synergies with other departments and areas at ifa and implement these together

- You will be responsible as a member of the ifa leadership team for working on the development of the institution and will advise management in this context


What We Expect

For this leadership position ifa is looking for a committed person with the requisite interest and skills in current national and international discourse, diversity, sustainability, and digitalisation, and who will contribute to shaping and developing ifa in these respects, enriching our present strategy process. You should have:

- an academic university degree or comparable qualifications

- several years' experience in culture, peace promotion, foreign affairs or comparable sectors, ideally including work abroad

- experience in the strategic innovative development and management of funding programmes and in project management

- highly developed strategic and empathetic, cooperative leadership skills

- excellent knowledge of current discourses in culture and foreign policy and significant international networks

- highly developed communication, social, and team skills, flexibility and resilience

- experience in organisational development and process management is an advantage

- very good German and English; further non-European languages are an advantage
