Introduction

The SOS Children's Villages worldwide Hermann-Gmeiner-Fonds Deutschland e.V. is an independent, non-denominational children's rights organization. With its headquarters in Munich and offices in Berlin and Düsseldorf, the organization has been supporting the global projects of SOS Children's Villages since 1963. 200 employees are committed to the vision of "A loving home for every child". With almost 3,000 programs in over 130 countries, the organization offers help to children, young people and families in need through education, medical care and family strengthening. The focus is on strengthening the family, sustainability, children's rights and cultural sensitivity.
 
We are looking for an Advocacy Advisor (m/f/d) for Humanitarian Action with a focus on children's rights to join the Advocacy & Policy department at our Berlin office as soon as possible on a part-time (minimum 32 hours) or full-time basis. 

Your tasks

  • Set the agenda and influence political processes related to humanitarian contexts and children's rights, specifically in areas such as children on the run, child protection, child labor, and education.
  • Contribute to the debate on key topics in humanitarian aid and children's rights within relevant networks and structures, as well as engage with political decision-makers in Germany and relevant international institutions
  • Develop and implement advocacy recommendations, and independently design and manage information formats and events for political target groups
  • Build and strengthen coalitions on child protection and children's rights in humanitarian aid with key national and international partners 
  • Represent SOS Children's Villages in working groups and at professional events
  • Contribute to and support the committees and hubs within the SOS Children's Villages Federation on political positioning in humanitarian issues
  • Management of a personal specialist network and active networking 
  • Develop strategies on the issue of children on the run

Your profile

  • Completed university degree (Master's/Diploma) in political science or a related field
  • At least three years of professional experience working with the German Bundestag, collaborating with ministries, government agencies and international institutions
  • Experience in drafting position papers and other written materials
  • Strong knowledge of German and international humanitarian actors and structures 
  • In-depth expertise in children's rights, with a focus on humanitarian aid 
  • Desirable: Experience in humanitarian aid or development cooperation abroad
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to quickly understand complex issues
  • Independent, responsible, and collaborative working style
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and German
  • Willingness to undertake occasional domestic and international travel
  • Identification with the values of SOS Children's Villages
